Snout
Real-time passive acoustic monitoring and processing
JASCO’s intelligent modular solution for real-time, passive acoustic monitoring, OceanObserver™, now comes in a hydrodynamically shaped external aluminum pressure housing with an integrated M36 hydrophone.
The Snout enables operators to easily access removeable SD memory cards and plug-in a laptop for system testing calibration and file downloads.
Features
Integrated M36 hydrophone
Up to 12 TB memory on removable SD cards
Up to 4 mid-speed channels @ 8-512 ksps
Applications
Marine mammal detection, identification, and localization
Multi-sensor ocean observing
Ambient and vessel noise quantification
Wind and tidal energy monitoring
Customized processing & telemetry
On-board signal processing is done by PAMlab INT, the integrated version of JASCO’s PAMlab software suite.
Real-time detection of marine mammal calls and clicks
Quantify ambient noise, vessel noise, and industrial noise sources
Customized processing
For bandwidth-limited telemetry like cellular and Iridium, Snout converts the detection spectrograms into contours and ranks them by priority. The events are relayed via satellite and delivered by email.

The Snout is intended to be attached to autonomous sub-sea robotic vehicles, buoys, and other platforms externally, so that JASCO systems do not need to be installed inside another pressure housing. It's made to be neutrally buoyant to streamline the integration process with different vehicles.
